W hen I first got started in my business, I was all over the place. I had a hugeeeee case of “comparisonitis.” In all honesty, I was afraid to put myself out there for fear of what others would think. Instead I would try to imitate what I saw other successful boss babes doing. But I found that whenever I would do that, I didn’t feel like I was being real. I felt fake, and like what I was doing wasn’t aligned with my actual purpose.

As a result, I had no clients, an inconsistent brand, and an overall lack of focus.

As an introvert, the idea of being “authentic” in my branding frankly terrified me. I took it to mean I had to be really out there with my story and bare my soul more than I was comfortable with. But what I’ve realized is, it’s more about not “playing a part” and instead being my real, true self. Since I’ve started doing that, I find it so much easier to create content and connections.  The reality is, people want to do business with people, not a nameless, faceless corporation.

1. You’ll attract your dream clients

If you’ve found that so far in your business you’ve been attracting people that aren’t quite the right fit, it’s likely because you haven’t been showing up as authentically you in your branding. Perhaps you’re playing a part and instead of showing up as the real you, you’ve been acting how you think you should. While this can seem safer in some ways, it also means those dreamy, ideal clients are passing you by.

Try sharing the story of what got you into business in the first place on your social media, your website, to your email list, or blog. 2. You’ll create more brand awareness

The simple reality is, authentic brands stand out. People are accustomed to seeing a certain type of messaging, and if you are imitating what others are doing, you aren’t going to stand out in the crowded online space. What will help you stand out? Being genuine. Telling your story. Showing that you have a solid understanding of who exactly you are and who you want to work with.

Get clear on WHO you are serving and what they need from you. Then answer the question – why are you the best one to help them?

3. You’ll differentiate yourself from your competitors

By being authentically you, you’re going to differentiate yourself from everyone else saying and doing the same things. You’ll stand out in a sea of the same. Which means that it doesn’t matter what your competition is doing, because your ideal customers will connect with YOU and what you’re putting out there.

Authentic branding tip

Go through your website, social media, brand photos, fonts, landing pages and any other public-facing channel. Tweak anything that isn’t something you would ACTUALLY say in person, change out pictures that don’t represent who you are and make sure that what you are seeing is really what you’re getting.

I hope these tips help you realize that being authentic in your branding doesn’t mean you have to share your deepest secrets. You just need to regularly show up as you.
